Lessons I've Learned as a Business Owner in 2020

Hello, there!

Tricia here - Founder + Owner of Hello Media. As we finally wrap up this emotional year, I thought it would be insightful to share some of my biggest takeaways as a business owner. Not only did we navigate our way through a world wide pandemic and a handful of other awful events that I can't bring myself to talk about, but I also walked through pregnancy, the birth of my second baby, an entire business rebrand and hiring three new incredible team members. It's been a doozy.

It's time to look back on all the value I've gained from 2020, and look forward to a fresh start! If you're a business owner, or hoping to start a business in 2021, here are a few of my best lessons I've learned this year: 1. Delegate More. Way More. Remember that part about hiring three new team members to the Hello Media family? Yeah, I should have done that way sooner! I am still learning to let go of certain tasks in my business and leave certain things to someone who is more knowledgeable. If it drains your energy or slows your growth, it's time to outsource! 2. Just because competitors are doing it, doesn't mean you need to. I don't care what industry you're in or what you offer - this one pertains to you. Remember that old saying your mom used to say to you? "If your best friend jumped off a bridge, would you?" Yeah, I'm telling you to ask yourself that question many times in 2021. Just because it worked for someone else in your industry, doesn't mean it's necessarily right for you! Test things out, measure the success of them, reevaluate, and try, try again! I do believe there is value in watching what your competitors are doing and staying on top of trends, but remember to fall back on your core values as a business, and do what feels authentic to you. 3. Charge What You're Worth I bet 80% of you reading this are undercharging. Hell, we're still undercharging. It's hard to increase those prices, I completely understand. Don't stop at the time spent doing the actual task you were hired for. Consider all of the things you do that enhance your expertise and add value to your business. Conferences? Webinars? Reading and listening to podcasts to level up in your knowledge? Those are only a few things to consider when pricing yourself. 4. Trust the Process I used to be so wrapped up in trying to control every tiny aspect on my business, and then we were hit with 2020. Where your business is right this moment is not your final destination, my friend. There is only so much you can control, and if anything has proven that to us, it's this year. Remind yourself that you've you've worked hard to get to where you currently are, and you have what it takes to get to where you want to go. We have all become quite resilient in this process, which will only make you a more confident business owner. And of course,

Cheers to making it through one hell of a year, friend! Thank you for being here and supporting our journey at Hello Media. If you'd like to work with us in 2021, you know where to find us! (Psst....it's right here)!
